Face Mask products are a must-have step for any Spa@Home treatment. Actually Face Masks for home use are great in many ways:

  • They can mean an instant boost to your skin complexion.
  • Usually they are super easy to use, just to be applied like a day cream.
  • A facial mask treatment in your Spa@Home routine does not really take any valuable time away from other things, as you can leave the mask on while doing other stuff, such as soaking in a bath tub, ironing your shirts, or sitting in your home office.
  • And they can help you to stretch the time between professional facial treatments.

I am currently busy testing a couple of face mask products at home and this is my verdict:

* * * I have received all below mentioned products free of charge, sponsored by the respective manufacturer. This fact has no impact on my honest opinion or my personal experience with the products.* * *

Pevonia

All Pevonia Mask I have tested are straight-out-of-the-tube and instantly-ready-to-apply facial mask products. Since I only had 5ml tester versions with no information on ingredients, I was unable to run an analysis on ingredients. However Pevonia products in general have great results when it comes to effective and safe ingredients, thus I must trust the manufacturer for the ingredients of their masks too.

Pure Skin Charcoal Mask

Sticky and fun! This is for sure not a leave on mask! The midnight blue and slightly gelly cream is fun to put on. It does not have a strong or unpleasant smell. I left it on my face whilst taking a bath (this way I additionally benefit from the pores of my skin opening due to the warm temperature of the bath).

Although my skin is not impure but rather dry and dehydrated, I felt an immediate cleansing effect, and some rehydrating. This is not the ideal mask for my personal skin type, yet a very pleasant product for someone who needs more of a cleansing effect than me. Definitely a little messy due to the black color and absolute no leave-on product.

Pevonia Charcoal Mask

Bright Skin Green Apple Mask

is a very light mask, again rather gel like, which I actually prefer. I did like the texture, the sensation on my skin, and the hydrating effect. I am no fan of green apple scent (keeps reminding me of the cheap hair shampoos that were in fashion in the 1980s), hence I would not want to use this mask on a regular basis. If you however are a fan of green apple scent, this is the one for you!

Ageless Skin Collagen Mask

This one was definitely my favourite amongst the three Pevonia Masks. For one because it suited my skin type best. I like the gel-type texture (actually of all the Pevonia Masks). The ageless skin collagen mask is of a whiteish colour like a daily moisturiser, however I could not leave it on, as the product started to crumble after a while on my skin. Yet the skin feeling after taking the product of was lovely, with an instant pick-me-up sensation. This mask has a lot of potential of becoming a regular on my bathroom shelf!

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare

This is definitely the one you want when you really feel parched. Like in summer after sunbathing, or a longer stretch of artificial air like indoor heating in winter or air conditioning in general.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare (made in France) was one of the sponsors of the ISPA Conference &Expo in 2018, distributing test products to participants.

The Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask provides a cooling and deeply hydrating Spa@Home treatment. Plus it is fun, and I love the color. However, this kind of color you need to keep in mind, cannot be natural. Hence I assume there is some artificial coloring included. If you are sensitive to fragrances, this may also not be for you, as the scent is strong.

As the manufacturer does not provide the INCI list on the sachets, I was unable to do a thorough analysis of ingredients. The website too does not provide the full list, only ‘key’ ingredients, which is not really helpful.

The product is not instant ready to use out of a container, hence you need to mix up two different components first. A plastic cup ( maybe time to direct you to my article ‘Can we make our Spas more sustainable’) and spatula come with.

How does it work?

Step 1: you mix a Hyaluronic Cushion Gel with an activating powder.

Step 2: spread the product mix in a thick layer from neckline upwards

Step 3: mask sets within a couple of minutes, can be left up to 15 min

Step 4: you can remove the mask in one go by peeling it off from one corner

Super mess free and no rinsing needed.

I honestly think this is your best option for deep re-hydration and an instant re-hydrating feeling, and there is this very noticeable cooling effect! Afraid the effect is not very long-lasting, but I guess well worth as first-aid in emergency situations.

Esensa Mediterana

Esensa Mediterana made in Kroatia is – at least for me – a new brand that I have not been aware of before. I will be writing a separate article as it is a spa brand with a professional product line for spa treatments, so well worth talking more about it.

The Brand says about itself to be a unique combination of phyto-, aroma-, and thalassotherapy. They use valuable essential oils as well as active plant and algae ingredients for maximum effects. ‘ made with love’.

For now, let us have a look at two different masks by the brand.

Esensa Caviar Lift

Caviar Lift Mask with caviar extract and avocado oil

Tester version with 5 ml content from the age defence line.

The content is white and of sticky texture, a heavy and rather dry cream, that I can apply easily. After about 15 minutes, the cream started to dry up and crack. It was super easy to wash of with a microfibre cloth. To me, it did leave the promised tightening and regenerating effect. Shame I only had a one time tester, I like to try out products over a period of time to be able to say more.

Optimal Soothing Mask for couperose skin with Aloe Vera, Lavender and Allantoin

Demo Product version with 50 ml from the optimal defence & nutri essence line.

I have tried this soothing and cooling face mask for home use in winter, after sunny ski days, when the skin in the face is red and dry. Perfect match! I like the subtle lavender scent. The thick white cream dries up after a while, however most of it was absorbed by my parched winter sport skin. I just rinsed the remains with a microfibre cloth. My skin was visibly relaxed, rehydrated and cooled down.
